The Story of the Coach House
During the 1980s, a lasting friendship was formed between the late John Evans and Piacenza-born Felice Mutti.
At the time, Felice was a waiter at a local restaurant frequented by John, who had dreams of transforming the old coach house at Ruxley Manor into an Italian restaurant. John invited Felice to join him in opening the Coach House in 1981.
Fond Family Memories
In time, the Coach House became not only a central part of the local community but was also deeply woven into the fabric of both families’ lives. Friends and family could often be found at the restaurant - celebrating birthdays, covering bar shifts, or just dropping in to say hello.
Among them were the current management team: Luisa, daughter of Felice and Sharon; Nicola and Samantha, daughters of John; and Domenico, who worked his first shift at the Coach House while learning English, where he met and married Luisa.
Authentic Italian Charm
Many of the restaurant’s staff have been part of the Coach House family for decades, ensuring the warmth and authenticity that makes the restaurant so special. Their dedication to service, combined with their deep knowledge of Italian cuisine, creates a sense of home for every guest.
The restaurant’s timeless interior further adds to its charm. With rustic wooden beams, crisp linen tablecloths, and polished silverware, the Coach House transports guests to the heart of old-world Italy, offering both the comfort of tradition and the elegance of fine dining.
The Next Chapter
Recently, the Coach House entered its next exciting chapter with the formation of a new management team. Nicola & Samantha (daughters of John) joined with Luisa & Domenico (daughter and son-in-law of Felice and Sharon) to continue the legacy built by their families.
Together, the new management team is committed to infusing their own passions and creativity into the restaurant. Guided by the same values of authenticity, family, and tradition, they remain dedicated to preserving the warm and welcoming atmosphere that guests have come to love.
Their vision for the Coach House offers the classic Italian dishes that have delighted guests for decades, alongside a monthly Seasonal Menu that appeals to a new generation of food lovers.
With a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients and local partnerships, they are creating a bridge between the cherished past and an exciting new future for the Coach House.
